Angela Marlton is responsible for coaching the senior squad and overseeing the competitive sector of the club. Starting in 2003 with a young squad of 8 competitive swimmers, she first produced a senior national qualifier in 2007 with 13 year old Kelly McCann. Since then a further 18 swimmers have achieved SA national or youth national qualifiers. Angela’s coaching objectives include:

  • To offer an environment where swimmers can maximize their talent to the extent they aspire to.
  • To assist in creating a passion for the sport in young people

Angela’s personal goal as a coach is to take those swimmers with the talent and desire to a level where they are able to receive scholarships to American Universities where she believes they will receive the coaching and the facilities to take their swimming to an international level. Currently Angela has had swimmers on scholarships at both UNM, Life University Atlanta, Catawba College Atlanta, and Yale University in America.

Jo is responsible for coaching stroke correction to all swimmers that fall between the learn-to-swim levels and competitive / squad levels.  Once children are ready to move on from learn-to-swim level, Jo will then begin the process of strengthening and developing their strokes further, with the aim of getting  them ready for competitive / squad level.

Although Jo’s lessons focus largely on stroke work, there is a good balance between stroke and fitness.

Jo also runs the moms and babies swimming programme in the mornings. She teaches little ones between the ages of 6 months and 3 years old. Most of the moms are in the water, helping their babies to learn skills that range from water familiarity, breath control, submerging, floating on their backs and eventually learning to swim independently.

Jo’s coaching objectives include:

  • Working on fine tuning all strokes and gala technique, while also increasing fitness levels
  • To ensure swimmers enjoy this sport and are motivated to continuously improve on their swimming ability.  To enjoy their lessons, while positively learning the discipline of the sport.

Jo is not only passionate about swimming but also about children, and she places a lot of emphasis on finding the right balance between having fun and working hard.
